Raw, unpolished practicality.
There’s movement in the sturdiness, a wave of meaning in each groove. Hand-carved and shaped from century-old timber, it’s a buffet that borders on sculptural – no two are the same.
Timber is harvested from a 75-year-old log, ran through a 1950s saw machine – crafted from a repurposed truck engine – and is cut into planks. Lined up in the kiln, they’re cooked for seven days to reduce moisture, then cooled for two. Assembled into boards, they’re hand-carved by a skilled artisan using a traditional chisel to shape the depth and flow of the pattern, sanding along the way over eight weeks. Once the shape is achieved, the board is sanded to expose the grain and stained a black lacquer finish – a process repeated four times to ensure full absorption. A final seal locks in the colour. From start to finish, a 12-week work of countless hands, carefully crafted before being shipped to your space. Where the next chapter begins. The Morpheus Buffet is also available in Natural.
